Deep pressure massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures called connective tissue.Deep tissue massage uses many similar movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense on certain muscles as the movement changes from a relaxing slower longer glide to a deeper intense formed pressure drawing focus on affected sub-layers of muscles and connective surround tissues affected by pain or injury to break down and restore the bodily functions in those deep sub layers.
It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension and/or adhesions. It may include stretching. This session is good for athletes, before and after events, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Generally, adhesion causes circulation to be blocked and therefore can limit the range of movement eventually resulting in stagnation resulting in inflammation. Some health problems such as contracted stiff areas, or extreme tightness in the neck, upper back, lower back or the legs, can definitely be treated with this deep tissue.
